Audition FAQ
  • Q: What are you looking for in the audition?

  • A: I am looking for someone who can project, who can move with purpose (not nervously swaying), and who can develop a concept for a character and stay in it during the performance. If you sing, I want to hear that part sung in context of the character and not necessarily in a way that is your best singing voice. It does, however, need to be in tune unless called for in the song to be out of tune.

  • Q: I'm not sure I want to be a part - should I audition?

  • A: It would be better to audition and then not accept the part you receive than to not audition at all. You are not locked in to a part just because you auditioned until you sign the Cast List poster when it comes out.

  • Q: Does my monologue or song need to be memorized?

  • A: No, but you will do better if it is.

  • Q: If I'm in the ensemble, do I have to sing or speak?

  • A: You will have to sing with the group and speak with the group, but no individual lines or solos will be given unless requested.

  • Q: Are there any late nights or Saturdays?

  • A: During the blocking process (usually January through March) we will stick strictly to the schedule unless students/parents okay any changes. Late nights won't happen until the two weeks before the show goes on. Any Saturdays will be listed on the schedule you will receive in January unless added if necessary, and again, with the okay of students/parents.

  • Q: Where will we rehearse?

  • A: All rehearsals will be at CLA in the Welcome Center until we get to show time in April. We will switch to Central High School at that time.

Show Synopsis

A musical perfect for the whole family, Seussical takes us into the world of Dr. Seuss, where we revisit beloved characters including The Cat in the Hat, Horton the Elephant, Gertrude McFuzz, Lazy Mayzie, and JoJo. The Cat in the Hat guides us into The Jungle of Nool where we see Horton, the kind hearted elephant who discovers a speck of dust containing Whoville. He meets JoJo, a Who child sent to military school for thinking too many “thinks.” Horton decides he must protect the speck of dust on a nearby clover, while at the same time protecting an abandoned egg left to his care by the lazy Mayzie la Bird. Horton tries to convince the other animals in The Jungle of the existence of the Whos, but he is ridiculed and put on trial for insanity. Only his loyal neighbor, Gertrude McFuzz, never loses faith in him.  Now one of the most widely produced musicals in the country, Seussical weaves a story of friendship, loyalty, and love. Despite all odds, Horton and Gertrude band together to save the Whos, free Horton, and restore peace and unity to the Jungle of Nool. Charming Seussical teaches us the power of being unique, and the importance of fighting for your beliefs.
